About Relic + Root

Hey there, I’m Suzann Chambers and my son Zack and I am super excited to open our design store here in Midlothian! It’s a long-awaited dream come true for me and I look forward to sharing it with you. My love for creating started at a young age and I was blessed through great parents who allowed my creative side to flourish. I grew up in a flower and gift shop where I was able to learn all sorts of amazing techniques from my Father. Raised in California, I went to college at CSUB and majored in Art History with a minor in ceramics. While there, I also learned to weld and sculpt which, to this day are two of my favorite loves. As an art major, I thought I’d become a teacher since I didn’t want to be a starving artist; however, God had other plans for me.

I married a nice Air Force man and while I knew there would some new assignment locations, I had really no idea about the number we’d experience—we moved our family 11 times in less than 13 years! So instead of teaching, I focused heavily on decorating wherever we went. With every move, I continued to learn more and instead of open a brick and mortar shop at each place we moved, I started a decorating business that moved with me. Having lived all over the US and Europe, I have a broad range of style and experience under my belt. I’m blessed to have clients (now some of my best friends!) all over the country and often fly out to do work. While it’s been fun to travel, I am ready to settle down, grow some roots, and make my dream come true. I’ve often said, “you bloom where you are planted” and as an Air Force wife, it was a necessity to make the best of where you were stationed… and we did.

As it came time to transition from Air Force life, we searched high and low to find the best place to raise our family. Midlothian was my first choice so I am happy to say we moved here a little over six years ago to plant our roots. Our great city is growing so fast and there are so many new faces. I really hope we get the chance to meet and find some ways to help you either decorate or find a unique piece of furniture, light fixture, or bobble in our store to complement your home. Please come in and say hello!
